Quest: Looking For a Rabbit
Characters: Chante
She had literally just walked into a Hanta by the name of Sirius as she was walking the streets of the public courtyard. He seemed anxious and Chante, keeping up her exterior of a wonderful member of the Kingdom as him why. He glanced at her and suddenly his face lightened as if an idea had struck him, he told her of his plight. Apparently he had left a rabbit near a rotting log and he wanted to retrieve it, but of course he was far too busy. As she said she would get it, had to keep up her reputation after all, he added one little problem. There was a bear nearby. He warned her to be careful, and she merely smiled.
"Thank you but I'll be fine," Chante said with a calm and collected voice. The bear wouldn't be a problem. If she must she would kill it, wouldn't it be funny if she was killed during the fight, after all she had always kept up the facade that her mother was killed by a bear. She chuckled as she walked away, wouldn't that be an ironic situation.
Her pace was quick as she walked through the courtyard. Dodging wolves from left to right she stopped as she stood at the entrance of the private courtyard, then she turned and moved around the walls protecting it. As she passed wolves she nodded a greeting to those who she knew. She didn't stop to chat with any of them, however, the quicker she finished this little challenge the quicker she'd be able to have some lunch. Besides she didn't see any she really would want to talk to anyways. All her friends were off causing some mischief somewhere. None of these others mattered much to her. Sure they were part of the Kingdom she protected and loved but most of these wolves had issues that just irked her, even if they were little things it didn't matter. Chante didn't like wolves she had to pay attention to. In other words, her and her friends talked very little about personal issues, so they didn't have to care much about what the other was besides what was shown on the exterior.
Her small paws soon brought her out of the public courtyard and into the basic hunting grounds. She glanced about as her paws practically 'sighed' when they touched the cool dying leaves under her feet. Compared to the hard stone, the slight crisp yet gentle texture of the rotting leaves was a blessing on her pads. She felt very childish for a moment, one of those rare moments with Chante when she wanted to be that pup again and forget all that had happened to her and her family. She wanted to run and roll, cover herself in the thick and heady smell of decaying undergrowth. But alas, that was not Chanteloupe Lesinger anymore. No now she was a killer and was always haunted by the Hunger.
She narrowed her golden hued eyes and shook away the invading thoughts and instead just stood there, reveling in the feel and smell of the forest around her. Her eyes snapped open at the sound of rustling next to her, a squirrel had made the sound by scampering up a tree and then proceeding to bark at her. She smirked and held herself high (why not no one was watching), and continued on with her task.
The fall colors were wonderful, leaves spiraled down to the ground, free from the branches at last, and settled comfortably onto their companions. Chante was always in awe of the world surrounding her. At least the nature part of it. Mother nature was always so... harsh and cruel, yet she was still beautiful, much like Chante herself. Though she wasn't necessarily comparing herself to nature, no, Chanteloupe could never make such beauty as the earth did.
She mused these thoughts as she walked through the forest, her eyes flicking from here to there. A lot of rotting logs decorated the forest, how was she to know which one it was? She had wandered into the middle of the forest when she heard some snuffling. Freezing, she tilted her head to the right and listened intently. As quick as possible, without Jumping, Chante was in the brush just off the path. She took a few steps forward and muscled her way through the bushes until she was just outside a clearing.
To the far back of the clearing was an old rotting log. A bear was stand in the center of the circle of trees sniffing the ground and Chante could smell the rabbit scent in the air. Stiffening she knew she must stop the bear from eating the rabbit.
Stepping out into the clearing, Chante let out a loud growl. The bear turned and blinked back at her. He seemed too bored to be bothered. He was just looking for food, but Chante couldn't let him have that rabbit. She raised her hackles, pulled her lips back from her teeth, and snarled. The bear blinked once more, sighed, and then almost seemed to shrug it's massive shoulders before turning to the left and leaving the clearing.
Chante raised a brow and shook her hackles down. She couldn't believe that worked and was almost disappointed. Shrugging to herself she trotted over and scooped up the rabbit on the other side of the rotting log into her jaws. Then slowly made her way back down the path into the forest. Back toward the Kingdom. She fully intended to take her time enjoying the nature around her, she didn't like the city as much as she liked the forest. She had been born in the forest and this small little wood of the basic hunting grounds was just a tiny imitation of that. But she loved it all the same.
Soon she was out of the forest and back into the field that was just outside the entrance back into the city. She glanced back, almost forlornly at the woods and then slipped back in through the gates. She wandered over to the Hanta and placed the large rabbit at his paws. A proud smirk settled on her lips and he nodded in approval.
"Good job," he said with a smile. With that said Chante turned and left, figuring he'd find her if he wanted to give her a reward or if not he wouldn't bother. Right now her stomach cried and grumbled for food. So off she went to find the lunch she had been dreaming about all day.
